Toyota 51%-owned affiliate Daihatsu is recalling 882,000 Move and Tanto minicars because of a problem with their door mirrors.
The recall, which applies to cars built between October 2006 and April 2010, will involve the fifth-highest number of vehicles since 1969 when the current recall system began, according to Japan’s ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism.
Daihatsu said that screws securing the door mirrors need to be strengthened with adhesive because strong physical shock could cause the mirrors to fall off.
The recall follows 68 complaints by customers and dealerships about the mirrors.
In September Daihatsu had to recall around 630,000 Move and Mira minicars because the orange colour in the vehicles’ rear indicator covers faded on exposure to sunlight, making them fall short of safety standards.
