Exclusing kei-class minivehicles, car sales in Japan rose 4.8% in January from a year earlier to 272,116 vehicles, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association reportedly said.

Sales of minivehicles in January rose 9.6% to 132,001 units.

January was the second consecutive month of year-on-year gains in sales of the 660cc vehicles, which account for roughly one-third of the domestic market, a Reuters report said.
