Jaguar will be the ‘Featured Marque’ at the 2000 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Festival, based near the historic Goodwood Estate in southern England, has grown to become one of the world’s top historic motorsport events. As the ‘Featured Marque,’ Jaguar will have a significant presence at this year’s Festival including a vehicle display and the R1 Formula One car driving the challenging hill climb course. The Goodwood Festival of Speed runs June 23-25, 2000.
“I am delighted that Jaguar is the Featured Marque in this, the eighth year of the Goodwood Festival of Speed,” commented Mike O’Driscoll, president of Jaguar Cars North America. “The event is unique in the motorsport calendar and brings together some of the world’s finest racing cars and motorcycles. With our latest motorsport venture in Formula One, Goodwood is the ideal place to reinforce our strong commitment to performance motoring.”

The focal point of the company’s involvement during the weekend will be a six-car aerial display of Jaguar racing cars on the circular lawn in front of Goodwood House. The specially commissioned metal construction will feature a selection of cars suspended from tensioned cables including — an XK120 roadster, a C-type, D-type, E-type coupe and XJR5.

As visitors approach the central display, they are flanked by two 32-feet high leaning steel masts that are connected to the ground by high-tensile steel cables. Attached to the main cables is the 2000 season Jaguar R1 Formula One car and the Jaguar F-TYPE concept, giving the effect of floating while firmly tethered to the ground.

The main central display consists of six 32-feet high leaning steel masts that are connected to each other — and to the ground — by high-tensile steel cables. Attached to the cables are six steel plates on which six Jaguar cars: a C-Type, D-Type, E-Type roadster, XK120 roadster, XKR-5 and XKR are connected.

Examples of many significant cars in Jaguar’s 77-year history will also be on display at Goodwood House, and a selection of racing models will be driven up the estate’s 1.6-mile hill climb course. Headlining the Jaguar racing cars at Goodwood will be the 2000 season Jaguar R1 Formula One car driven by Johnny Herbert.

Lord March, who created the Festival and on whose estate it is held, is enthusiastic about Jaguar’s presence: “Jaguar has provided us, for the first time, with the opportunity to assemble the most unique collection of cars and drivers from its racing heritage ever seen together in one location.”
