Sales of Maserati sportscars have continued to climb this year thanks to the sleek new Quattroporte saloon, with US sales jumping 122% year-on-year, the Fiat-owned firm told Reuters.
The Quattroporte rolled out across the world last year and sold 1,900 units, boosting Maserati’s annual sales by 60%. This year, Maserati expects Quattroporte sales to rise a further 80%, it said in a statement.
Maserati reportedly said orders for the new model were flooding in, with a 147% rise in Japanese sales in the first five months of 2005 and a 180% increase in the rest of Asia, Oceania and South America.
However, Reuters noted, the Quattroporte only arrived in some of those markets late in 2004 so the rises are off low bases. Sales in Italy, where the model was first launched, were up 49%.
The Quattroporte was the first major Maserati to be launched in years as Fiat tries to turn around the loss-making marque.
