Pininfarina plans to open a research and design centre in India this year with minority participation by Tata Motors.
At the centre to be opened by the end of the year in Pune, northwestern India, Pininfarina will offer services to all automakers, the company said.
“This agreement witnesses the great attention Pininfarina is dedicating to an emerging and highly developing market such as the Indian one,” said the group’s CEO Andrea Pininfarina.
Tata is mulling taking part in Pininfarina’s planned capital expansion, the statement added.
“To further reinforce the strategic tie between Tata Group and Pininfarina Group, (Tata CEO) Ratan Tata … has expressed interest in the Tata Companies participating Pininfarina’s planned capital increase with the subscription of a portion of the options that will be assigned to the Pininfarina family,” the statement said.
