Truck manufacturer Iveco has signed a letter of intent with Santana to jointly develop a new SUV. A formal agreement is expected by the end of the year.
The product would be designed for professional rather than consumer use, and derived from Santana’s PS10, also known as the Anibal. The vehicle would be built by Santana and have an Iveco engine and transmission.
The letter of intent also clarifies the guidelines for possible future negotiations, intended to build up common commercial policy and strategies.
Iveco already supplies engines to Santana, which produces the Jimny for Suzuki, the Anibal, which was launched in 2003 and is now the official vehicle of the Spanish armed forces, and the Santana-branded 300/350 model, launched in 2005.
Santana was established in 1956 as an agricultural machinery manufacturer and over the years has produced vehicles for Land Rover and Suzuki, and gearboxes for Citroen.
