Figures released by the Italian Transportation Ministry show that the market declined by 5.6% over year-ago levels in August to stand at 101,300 units.

Fiat Group’s share of the market was put at 30.2% against 30.5% in July and 32.1% in August last year.

Analysts say that the August market result is pretty much in line with expectations. The market is continuing to trend downwards and the government’s recent decision to exempt purchasers of small new catalysed vehicles from ownership tax for three years appears not to be making a big impact.
