Former Rolls-Royce chairman and CEO Karl-Heinz Kalbfell is to head Fiat Auto’s Alfa Romeo brand, Automotive News Europe reported, citing unnamed sources.

The report said Kalbfell will replace Daniele Bandiera who has led Alfa Romeo since February 2002. The appointment could be announced as early next week though Kalbfell’s non-compete clause will probably delay his official start at Alfa until the Geneva motor show in March 2005.

Automotive News Europe noted that Kalbfell resigned as chairman and CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars on Monday after working for the parent BMW Group for 28 years.
