Alfa Romeo chief operating officer Karl Heinz Kalbfell has been named chief executive officer of Maserati, replacing Martin Leach who is leaving the company.

Kalbfell will assume responsibility for the Alfa Romeo-Maserati sports car brand announced last week.

“This will allow the two marques to achieve important industrial and commercial synergies,” a Fiat statement said.

Giuseppe Bonollo has been named head of product portfolio management, in charge of developing the Fiat and Lancia ranges. Frank Stephenson was named head of the Fiat, Lancia and commercial vehicle styling centre.

Bonollo and Stephenson, who transfer from Ferrari, will report directly to Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne.
