Italian press reports suggested today (28 February) that Fiat may benefit from government plans for a EUR200m package to finance job cuts.
The Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera quoted welfare minister Roberto Maroni, saying that although the plan was not tailor-made for the car maker, “I think that Fiat could be interested”.
The government proposal would finance 3,000 industrial job cuts through early retirement. Il Corriere della Sera said around 1,000 of these could be at Fiat.
