Fiat took 30.1% of Italian new car sales in November, up from 28.05% in October, industry sources told Reuters on Thursday.

Official car registration data is due out late in the day.

Fiat, which once accounted for about two thirds of Italian sales, saw its market share plummet as foreign competitors moved in and a sales slump dragged it into crisis in 2001-02, the report said.

It hopes new models like the revamped Fiat Punto, which went on sale in September, will boost sales and return the group to a market share of more than 30% in Italy, Reuters noted.
