Fiat subsidiary Magneti Marelli has signed an agreement for a joint venture with SAIC for the production of hydraulic components for the automated manual transmission (AMT) made by Magneti Marelli.


Under the agreement the two companies will own equal stakes in the joint venture, a statement said.


The joint venture will be located in the Shanghai area and is expected to be operational in the second half of 2009.


At full capacity the new JV will produce components for some 350,000 gearboxes per year.
