Isuzu Motors has launched the new one-tonne pickup truck D-MAX and MU-X, a seven-seater passenger vehicle, in Thailand.
Both vehicles come with the newly developed RZ4F 2.2L diesel engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission (AT) and will be available in Thailand from 28 November.
Isuzu did not disclose the details about the pricing of the vehicles.
Isuzu highlighted that the new RZ4F engine, combined with the 8-speed AT, enhances start-up performance, acceleration, and fuel efficiency over current models.
As part of its mid-term business plan, “ISUZU Transformation – Growth to 2030 (IX),” the Japanese automotive major is focusing on developing vehicle power source technologies through a multi-pathway approach.
This strategy enables customers to select the power source that aligns with their preferences, whether it is the RZ4F internal combustion engine, battery electric vehicles, or fuel cell vehicles.

By GlobalDataWith a 2.2L displacement, the RZ4F engine delivers an output and torque of 120 kW / 400 Nm while maintaining durability and minimising noise levels, the company noted.
Isuzu stated that by improving combustion and optimising turbo settings with the new eight-speed AT, both power and fuel efficiency have been “significantly” enhanced compared to existing models.
The 8-speed AT features a wider gear range, optimised torque, high-performance lockup dampers, and gear shift map settings tailored to the RZ4F engine.
The D-MAX is larger in total length at 5,280 mm compared to 4,860 mm but is narrower at 1,870 mm versus 1,885mm and shorter in height at 1,810mm compared to 1,875mm.
The MU-X, while shorter in length, offers a more compact minimum turning radius of 5.6m compared with the D-MAX’s 6.1m.
Isuzu president and COO Shinsuke Minami said: “Isuzu has attained high market share in Thailand over the years with the support of many loyal customers. The new D-MAX and MU-X, with a new engine and 8-speed automatic transmission, will bring significant improvements in driving performance and fuel economy.
“Isuzu continues to develop a wide range of products with a multi-pathway approach as we strive to realise a carbon-neutral society, not only in the area of internal combustion engines, but for battery EVs and fuel cell vehicles as well.”
Earlier this year, Isuzu unveiled its first battery-powered D-MAX one-tonne pickup truck at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show.
The automaker stated that the Thai-made BEV would initially launch in Europe in 2025, followed by Australia, Thailand, and other markets.
