During a three-day summit of industry ministers of the D8 [Developing 8] held in Istanbul, Turkey, Iran’s IKCO was appointed to design the D8 joint car in cooperation with Turkey and Indonesia.
During the summit, Turkey was designated to establish the D8 Society of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers within eight months.

Uniform technical regulations and standards of D8 countries in automobile and part manufacturing in compliance with those of United Nation Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) as well as applying for membership in this association was another agreement of the summit.
Egypt was the member that undertook this responsibility.
The members of this working group also reached an agreement on promoting research and development activities in new fields as CNG technology, hybrid technology, plug-in cars, new materials and nano-technology.
Improving the quality, the level of technology and also the capacity of the supply chain was another issue tackled by the D8 vehicle working group.
