Toyota Motor plans to increase exports from its Indonesian manufacturing subsidiary by 10% to 107,000 units this year, from 97,300 units in 2014.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia president-director follows Andang Tjahjono made the statement to local reporters in view of the rupiah’s 5.5% decline against the US Dollar so far this year.
Sister company Astra Daihatsu Motor also plans a similar increase in exports, from 160,000 last year to 176,000 units.
Higher exports will help offset the rising cost of imported parts due to the weak rupiah, although Andang estimates local content of mainstream models at around 80%.
He has urged Indonesian suppliers to increase production capacity of some key commodities, such as aluminium, resin and steel, to help support the local automotive industry.
