Ford said its sales in South-east Asia rose by 5% to 100,824 vehicles in 2014, with record sales reported in the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia and Myanmar.

The regional increase came despite a sharp decline in its main market, Thailand, where overall sales are estimated to have declined by a third to below 900,000 units last year. Here, Ford’s sales fell by close to 26% to 38,087 units.

Ford’s sales in the Philippines rose by 53% to 20,341 units in 2014 while in Vietnam volumes were 71% higher at 13,988 units; Malaysia 13,938 units (+31%); and Indonesia an estimated 11,500 units (+16%).

Combined sales in Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos increased by 31% to 2,161 units.

Ford’s best selling model in the region was the Thai built Ranger with deliveries rising by close to 10% to 50,190 units last year. The Ranger was the best selling pickup truck in the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar, and the second-best seller in Malaysia.

The recent launch of the EcoSport compact crossover vehicle also helped drive regional sales last year, with regional volumes reaching 18,149 units.
