Second quarter profit at PT Astra International, Indonesia’s main vehicle distributor and biggest listed company, rose 26%, driven by strong vehicle sales and higher commodities prices.
Astra, controlled by Singapore’s Jardine Cycle & Carriage, saw second-quarter net profit at 4.3 trillion rupiah (US$506.6m), up from 3.4 trillion rupiah in the same period a year ago, the firm said in a statement cited by Reuters.
Indonesian car sales for the first half of 2011 were up 12.8% year on year after a 57% surge in 2010.
Analysts have forecast Astra’s full year 2011 net profit up 15% to 16.55 trillion rupiah, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
