Geely’s Volvo is looking to increase its presence by introducing new models and increasing its sales network in India.
The automaker has been working on a revival plan globally. Tomas Ernberg, managing director for Volvo India, said he expects a big boost in India sales in the coming years and will place a bigger focus on the market.
He said Volvo would launch the V40 Cross Country model there by June and follow this with other models.
Unlike BMW and Audi, which are selling close to 10,000 units in India annually, Volvo’s volumes are low because there is no local assembly to counter the high taxes levied on fully imported cars.
In the first quarter of this year, the company sold 276 vehicles, although this was up 140% year on year. It currently sells the XC90, XC60 and S80 and S60.
