The Union Cabinet of India has given approval for the establishment of a National Automotive Board (NAB) to enable the government and local auto industry to promote R&D activities.
The NAB will also perform think tank duties for the government, reported the Economic Times. It will also contribute towards the growth of hybrids and electric vehicles in India.

The NAB will include members from the Planning Commission, Department of Heavy Industry and ministries such as Road Transport and Highways, Science and Technology and Environment and Forests. Scientists and industry representatives will also be on the board.
