Toyota Kirloskar (TKM) plans to build the Camry sedan at its Bangalore facility in India from next July with launch scheduled in August.

According to IndiaMart.com, TKM marketing chief Sandeep Singh said: “Toyota’s plan is to start assembling at its Bangalore facility from July and to launch in August. We are on schedule.”

Toyota Kirloskar has decided to go ahead with the plan despite the increase in duty. The company is relying on semi-urban and rural markets to boost growth. It will also increase its dealer outlets from the current 173 to 225 by the end of 2012.

The Etios, the company’s most ‘localised’ model in India will get further localisation from the current 70% to 90% over two years. By 2013, the company also plans to increase production by another 100,000 units yearly with an investment of INR8.98bn (US$171m), as part of its second phase expansion.

The Camry is also assembled in Russia.
