Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) opened the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), for middle school graduates, in Bangalore, India, on Wednesday.

TTTI was established to give Indian youths who have the ability, but face difficulties in continuing onto high school because of economic or other reasons, a chance to learn specialised manufacturing skills.

Instruction will focus on painting, welding, vehicle assembly and ‘mechatronics’.

The three-year programme will include academic classes on engineering and practical training at TKM. All students will live in a dormitory and pay no entrance fees or tuition. An admissions test was held early last, with 64 students accepted.
