Workers at Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. have begun a protest fast, having been forced to end strike action last month.

The dispute began on January 6th when nearly 1,550 of the plant’s 2,350 workers went on strike to protest at the dismissal of three colleagues, accused of lacking discipline, reported the Associated Press. They were forced back to work two weeks later, when the state government invoked special labour law powers. Plant management forced workers to sign agreements saying they would not strike again and suspended 27 staff who they claimed had damaged equipment.
The protesters want all 30 staff reinstated. The latest protest began on February 5th consists of groups of workers taking it in turns to fast for a day and sit in silence near the factory gate.
Management at the plant reportedly say the fast is not affecting production at the plant, which produces 60,000 Corolla and Innova cars per year
