Tata Motors is eyeing overseas expansion and is is considering establishing manufacturing facilities.

A Tata Motors’ spokesman told The Economic Times daily: “The company is evaluating options across the world. At first, the evaluation is about which product is relevant for which market. After that it will be decided whether the product will be exported or manufactured locally.”

In April, Tata Industries Managing Director Kishor Chaukar said Tata Motors was “at a very high stage” in finalising a production site for its Nano car abroad, which could be in Latin America, Southeast Asia or Africa.

Currently, the company has truck assembly units in Thailand and Bangladesh. It is now setting up subsidiaries in overseas markets including Latin America. 

Tata Motors’ Annual Report for 2010-11 revealed: “The company will aggressively pursue opportunities in international markets as part of its internationalisation drive, including evaluation of possible overseas manufacturing.”
