Ford India president and managing director, Michael Boneham said the company will increase exports of the Figo due to strong demand.
According to Business Standard, he said, “Currently, we are exporting [Figo] to 32 countries. We are hoping to increase that to 50 markets.”
Boneham added: “We have already announced our plans to introduce eight new products by the middle of this decade; having 230 outlets across 123 cities demonstrates Ford ‘s commitment to India.”
On a government proposal to tax diesel vehicles, Boneham said: “There has been a lot of discussion about taxation on diesel vehicles. I don’t think that’s the right approach. Already the industry is struggling here and we would not want something that will allow the automobile industry, which provides employment opportunities, to suffer.”
Boneham said the company’s diesel engine plant at Maraimalai Nagar will start operations in April.
