Ford will launch its new small car in India in 2010, a top company official was quoted as saying on Wednesday.

“We are working on the small car programme and will be launching it in 2010”, Scott McCormack, the automaker’s local head of marketing, sales and service, told the Economic Times of India.

According to the report, Ford plans to increase the installed capacity of its manufacturing facility in Chennai from 100,000 units a year currently to 250,000 by 2010.

“We are investing $US500m for the expansion initiative, which includes the small car programme and engine plan,” McCormack said.
