Skoda is planning to double its capacity in India this year to 30,000 units.
Speaking ahead of the Delhi auto show, Skoda chairman Reinhard Jung said growth would come from the launch of local production of the Fabia. Skoda currently only assembles the Octavia at its plant in Aurangabad, India.
“The growth in market is in lower-priced segments so we offered Fabia … It is 50% of the price of others (Skoda cars) and that is a huge opportunity,” said Jung.
“Fabia in future may be 50% of the (firm’s) total volume,” added Jung. He said that up to half of the car’s parts eventually could be locally sourced.
