Scania plans to begin production at its bus plant in Narasapura, near Bangalore, in August.
Press Trust of India said the INR3bn (US$50m) factory is expected to have an initial annual production capacity of around 1,500 buses.

Scania India managing director and Scania Group senior vice-president Anders Grundstromer said: “The buses were produced in Malaysia. From August, we will start production in India. [They] will be Metrolink coaches between 13.7m and 14.5m sizes with [100% local content] of [the] bus body. The chassis will be 30% [localised].”
He said Scania had spent about INR3bn on the plant. “This year we will sell about 150 buses in India and next year it will be 450.”
For the next five years, the company aims to sell 2,500 trucks and 1,000 buses per year. So far, it has sold 35 buses in India.
Grundstromer said: “We are spreading our wings in India step by step. We are already present in Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka. We will be entering into Gujarat and Nagpur. Then we will go to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.”
