Having piloted small scale marketing of its cars, India’s Reva Electric Car Co. is now gearing up for the mass market.


 


According to an interview with deputy chairman and chief technical officer Chetan Mainiarticle in Pakistan-based The News International, the test marketing phase is now over and the Reva car is ready to “leap into the mass market for environmental-friendly vehicles”.


 


Reva has sold 2,000 cars in India and Europe. Six hundred are on the road in London where they have been marketed as the G-Wiz.

The Bangalore company hopes to sell 30,000 cars next year, according to the interview. “Everything has been coming together and we have reached an inflection point to take off,” said Maini.


 


Last month the company launched a second generation model which can run for 80km (about 50 miles) on a single charge of electricity and reach a top speed of 80km/h (about 50mph), up from 60km/h (35mph) for the previous model. Torque has been improved by around 40%.
