Mahindra & Mahindra is set to launch the Quanto, its first small SUV, in September.

The Quanto will share M&M’s rear- and four-wheel drive MUV platform as introduced by the Mahindra Xylo in 2008.

“With the Quanto, Mahindra is aiming to fill a need gap in the Indian automotive market for a versatile and compact SUV. We expect the Quanto to offer an exciting upgrade at a premium to customers who are otherwise looking for premium diesel hatchbacks or entry level diesel sedans,” Pawan Goenka, president of Mahindra’s automotive & farm equipment sectors is quoted as saying by the Indian Business Times.

Reports in the Indian media claim the new vehicle will be with dealers just before the Dusshera-Diwali festive season, meaning it should get off to a solid sales start.
