After the Datsun GO was awarded a zero rating in Global NCAP’s crash test, Nissan is now using higher grade steel and reinforcements to strengthen the hatchback’s body shell, media sources said.
The new steel has a tensile level of 520 mega pascal, up from 320 earlier. The company is also adding beams on both sides of the vehicle to increase the strength and rigidity. Anti lock braking and airbags will be added by mid-2015.

Nissan plans to send the revised model to Global NCAP for review in the near future, ETAuto.com reported.
A Nissan spokeswoman said: “Every product of both Nissan and Datsun is engineered keeping in mind India’s safety benchmark.”
David Ward, secretary general of Global NCAP, said: “We certainly welcome this move, if it is true. But we haven’t received any vehicle or communication for reassessment. It will be good to assess the modified version of the Datsun Go and I am hoping that, post modification, Go does pass the test. Increasingly we would want all cars to meet the UN crash regulation in India and across the world.”
