Nissan has started manufacturing the recently announced Sunny sedan at its Chennai plant which it jointly owns with Renault to catch sales during the festival season, which many Indians consider a good time to make major purchases such as cars.
A company statement said production started on 30 August.
“We wanted the mid-size sedan to be available during the upcoming festival season and we successfully accelerated our programme to make that schedule,” said Nissan Motor India managing director and chief executive Kiminobu Tokuyama.
The Sunny was unveiled earlier in August and has been designed to attract young families wanting a mid-sized sedan.
