Nissan is reportedly planning to double the size of its Datsun brand India dealership network by 2016. India is a key emerging market targeted for future growth for the low-cost emerging markets brand.
Nikkei reported that outlets selling Datsun cars will be set up in dealerships selling Nissans, bringing the total to 260. Nissan India will directly handle the sales and marketing work that had been consigned to local companies.
Datsun cars began India assembly with the Datsun Go small hatchback model last year made at the Chennai alliance plant. More models are planned.
Previously, the brand has said that it is planning to launch more Datsun-only retail points in India.
Nikkei noted that Datsun vehicles account for around a third of Nissan sales volume in India, Indonesia and Russia. The automaker aims to increase that figure to one-half by fiscal 2016.
