Nissan Motor India has started taking orders for the diesel version of its recently launched Sunny mid-sized sedan.
Available in two variants, the XL and the XV, the India-built Sunny Diesel is claimed to be amongst ‘best in class’ in terms of fuel efficiency and targets the fast growing demand for diesel cars in India.
The petrol variant was launched in September.
The Sunny Diesel costs INR798,000 (US$14,860) (XL) and INR878,000 (XV) in New Delhi.
Departing from the industry norm, Nissan has adopted a uniform pan-India pricing strategy, whereby the showroom price of the Sunny Diesel will remain the same across all states. The only variations will be in terms of VAT, Entry Tax, Octroi and other local taxes levied by states/cities.
Built at the Nissan plant in Chennai, the diesel variant is powered by a 1.5-litre, I4 K9K engine delivering 86PS of power at 3750rpm and maximum torque of 200Nm at 2000rpm. A five speed manual transmission is standard.
