Tata Motors new Sanand plant is finally ready for commercial production of the Nano people’s car after an April Job One date slipped to June.

The main Nano plant was relocated to the western Indian state of Gujarat after the plug was pulled on a 95%-complete Singur factory in west Bengal in 2008 following violent local protests over land seizures.

Though Tata Motors has not officially announced the launch of the new unit, media speculation suggests early June, possibly the 2nd.

Currently, Tata Motors is meeting initial orders of 100,000 cars from factories in Pune and Pantnagar.

Over 30,000 cars have already been delivered and Tata hopes the addition of Sanand production will let it clear the backlog by the end of the year and meet future delivery dates.

Pantnagar builds around 200 cars a day.
