Maruti Suzuki says production is running normally at its Manesar plant despite what it refers to as “agitation” occurring outside the Indian site.
The Manesar factory has been subject to considerable industrial unrest this year as striking workers have protested against what they claim is a lack of union recognition, but the company is insisting the latest trouble is to do with deliberate sabotage of production.
“It is to do with the quality problem,” that is the current problem,” a Maruti Suzuki spokesman told just-auto from India. “There were incidents of sabotage in quality. The company asked the workers to sign a good conduct bond – [some] have signed and others have refused.
“It is not on the issue of separate unions – we are talking to the existing union representatives along with government representatives. We have been talking to them today also.”
The spokesman added production of the Swift was running at around 700 units per day.
