Maruti Suzuki India has reported a 5% year on year rise in net profit to INR5.9bn (US$132.2m) on sales up 27% to INR89.4bn ($1.98bn) for the second fiscal quarter of 2010-11.

The company achieved its highest ever domestic sales in a quarter at 277,936 units, up 32.9% over the same period last year.

During the quarter, Maruti launched the re-engined Alto K10, factory-fitted CNG versions of the Alto, Estilo, WagonR, Eeco and SX4 and an automatic version of the A-star (domestic Alto) was also launched.

Volume in the domestic A2 segment grew 30% while in the A3 segment sales volume grew 29.2%, compared to sales in July-September 2009. Sales in the C segment, comprising Omni and Eeco, grew 87.4%. 

At the end of the quarter the sales network was 860 outlets, covering 598 cities, up from 802 outlets in 555 cities at the end of March. The service network was 2,819 workshops in 1,354 cities. (2,740 in 1,335 cities).
