Indian market leader Maruti Suzuki sold 75,300 vehicles during July, including 8,796 exports.
The company said that while the overall automobile market was sluggish, its domestic sales volume in July 2011 was impacted by number of issues: assembly of the Swift Dzire was shifted from Manesar to Gurgaon resulting in 5,471 fewer sales of the model than in the same month last year. The old Swift was discontinued last month and the new generation model is not launched until the middle of this month. Last July the company sold 11,828 Swifts compared with just 348 last month.
Strikes at the Manasar plant also disrupted production during the month and Maruti lost 17,000 units compared to July 2010.
