Maruti Udyog exports fell 58.2% in July to 1,755 cars compared with 4,203 a year previously. Fiscal year-to-date exports (April to July) were down 13.5% to 9,599 compared with 11,096 the previous year.


Overall, though, the Indian Suzuki vehicle manufacturer’s total sales were up 14.8% to 191,356 after the first four months of the fiscal year.


Sales in the ‘A2’ class, which includes the recently redesigned Swift (which at one time following its launch had a six-month waiting list) were up 22.6% to 120,776 units while even the ageing A1-segment M800 (based on a previous generation Suzuki Alto model launched in the early 1980s) saw sales up 2.5% to 26,340 units.


The second-largest rise was in the C-segment (Omini and Versa) – 13.9% to 23,708 units.


Sales in the larger A3 segment (Baleno and Esteem) rose 4.5% to 9,713 units; only the MUV segment (Gypsy and Vitara) saw a fall – to 1,220 units, off 0.7%.
