Magneti Marelli has inked a 50/50 joint venture through its Sistemi Sospensioni unit with India’s largest gasket maker Talbros Automotive Components (TACL) for manufacturing suspension systems and modules in India.

The JV will be operational by April 2012 and TACL will transfer its stamping business to the new venture after obtaining shareholders’ approval.

The JV will be in Faridabad (in the North Indian state of Haryana that is also home to Maruti Suzuki’s main plants), and will manufacture components such as control arms, knuckes and front and rear axles for automobile applications.

It will also have the capability to design and manufacture entire suspension systems for the automakers.

Magneti Marelli said it would provide design and technology support to the JV including a full range of suspension components and modules, allowing the JV to offer the most advanced lightweight suspension technology for automakers seeking to reduce vehicle weight to lower emissions and improve fuel efficiency.

“The JV will create a specialised suspension manufacturer with immense growth potential,” said TACL managing sirector, Umesh Talwar.
