Hyundai Motor India car sales in May rose 8.4% year on year as exports rose 27.8%.

The Indian unit said it sold 43,628 units in May, of which 20,155 were exports.

Hyundai said its exports to Europe grew despite a broader slowdown in the sector after the European Union introduced incentives for people to trade in old cars, Reuters reported.

The “scrappage” vehicle-exchange schemes introduced this year across the continent allow motorists to apply for a discount on a new car when they trade in cars more than 9-10 years old.
