Hyundai expects to increase car exports from India in 2008.
Last year, the company exported 100,000 units of its Santro hatchback, called the Atos Prime overseas, and the Accent sedan to more than 65 countries. This will now rise to 70 countries, Reuters reported.
“This year, at least 100,000 I10 cars alone are likely to be exported,” Hyundai Motor India managing director HS Lheem told the news agency at a New Delhi motor show.
Hyundai expects its new I10 hatchback to also boost domestic sales by 30%, to 265,000 units. The company’s sales grew just 7% in 2007, hit by lack of mass models and five-year high interest rates, the report noted.
Lheem also told Reuters Hyundai Motor India would revise prices of its passenger car models across categories on 12 January, to offset rising input costs. I10 prices are likely to be raised by INR5,000.
