Marurti Suzuki (MSIL) is eyeing Gujarat as one of the states in which it might locate a 1m-unit car manufacturing factory.

The state is home to a Tata Motors Nano factory and both Ford and PSA plan plants in the Sanand region.

A team of officials led by Suzuki Motor chairman Osamu Suzuki, MSIL chairman RC Bhargava and MSIL MD S Nakanishi met Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and state officials in Gandhinagar, the Hindustan Times reported.

“A final decision regarding a new faciltiy will be taken by October-end,” Bhargava said after the meeting. “A new facility will be spread in 500 acre area in addition to a vendors’ park in another 500 acres. Gujarat is one of the options the company is exploring.”

Also on the radar are Maharashtra and Karnataka, he said.

Sources told HT that MSIL has shortlisted several locations including Mundra special economic zone (SEZ).

MSIL has a long term tie-up with Adani group, developer of Mundra port and SEZ, for exporting cars from its dedicated car terminal.
