The Indian government will require new passenger car models of all sizes sold to undergo crash tests and meet minimum safety standards from October 2017, according to the Times of India.
The government is expected to officially announce the new deadline soon as part of a move designed to help increase road safety in the country.

The deadline to introduce crash tests on new generations of models already in production will be October 2019.
Front impact tests will be required at 56km/h and side impact tests at 50km/h based on international standards.
