General Motors India has rolled out the first Chevrolet Optra from its Halol plant. The new midsize sedan will officially be introduced in late June and is apparently based on the redesigned Daewoo Nubira. GM Canada has also recently announced plans to sell a Daewoo-designed model line with the same name.

“GM is launching the Chevrolet brand across the Asia Pacific region,” said GM Asia Pacific spokesman Terry Johnsson. “We are tailoring our product offerings to the needs of the local marketplace and, because of its rising demand for high-quality and affordable sedans, we selected India as one of the first markets in the world to build and sell the Optra.”

In addition to the Optra, GM India also manufactures the Opel Astra, Corsa, Corsa Sail and Swing in Halol to sell alongside the imported Opel Vectra and Subaru-built Chevrolet Forester.

To support its growing product lineup, GM India has established 42 dealers and 42 authorised service outlets in 85 locations across the country. The nationwide network is expected to soon grow to 100 locations.
