The Indian Express newspaper reports that Fiat India and General Motors India (GMI) are evaluating the possibility of working more closely together in a number of areas. The report says that the two companies are looking at synergising their operations in certain areas like common dealer workshops, logistics and sourcing from common vendors.
Fiat India’s head M.P. Bianchi, told the Indian Express: “The idea is to have cost savings on both sides. However, higher levels of synergy like developing a common powertrain is not in the offing as that would require large volumes.”
He added that Fiat and GMI currently have only around 2-3 common dealerships. Fiat has 67 dealerships, while GMI has 36.
