DaimlerChrysler India will introduce the Actros range of commercial vehicles in India in the near future.
The company is presently undertaking a feasibility study for introducing Actros 40-tonne multi-axle trucks. The trucks are in the process of homologation at the certification agency – Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and the company should be in a position to launch within six months. The company has not yet decided on pricing.
The Actros range will compete with well-established Volvo models. The Swedish firm has been in the Indian market with its multi-axle; high GVW rigs for the last many years but has met with limited success till now. However, the trend in the Indian commercial vehicle industry is now slowly moving towards multi-axle, large capacity trucks, thanks to the improvement in road infrastructure.
Later this year, Tatra is also expected to enter the higher-end truck market.
