“It is an iconic brand and people know more about the car than Volkswagen,” a company spokesman told the Economic Times. A launch date was not given.
The exclusively Mexican-built Beetle, was first launched in 1998 in the US.
Volkswagen currently assembles Jetta and Passat models in India with the Polo to follow early in 2010.
