Tata AutoComp GY Batteries, a joint venture of Tata AutoComp Systems and GS Yuasa, was reported to have said on Wednesday it would double production capacity of automotive batteries by 2010/11.


The facility in Pune near Mumbai will have an annual capacity of 2m units to meet robust demand, according to Reuters.


The news agency noted that the joint venture, set up in 2006, did not say how much it would invest in capacity expansion.


Annual passenger vehicle sales in India are forecast to nearly double to 2 million units by 2010, Reuters noted.
