Gujarat based AMW Auto Components has a won a US$10m order from Volkswagen Brazil to supply wheel rims from 2013.

Its auto parts business head Anand Mimani told just-auto the order was for 2m wheel rims a year for future models which would be launched in the second quarter of 2012.  The supplier is the first Indian company to win an order directly from VW Brazil.

Deliveries to VW Brazil begin in the first quarter of 2013 and are expected to continue for a vehicle life cycle of at least five years.

“We sold 2m wheels in 2011-12 and plan to more than double sales to 5m in fiscal 2012-2013,” Anand said.

AMW started wheel output in 2010 and made a record 200,000 rims last month.

Last year it received orders from GM Brazil and Iveco Brazil. The company’s plant at Bhuj is the largest single location manufacturer of wheel rims in India with capacity of 15m units.

Other OEM customers include Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, New Holland Tractors, Mahindra & Mahindra, TAFE and International Tractors. It also exports to tyre and wheel distributors in Europe.
