Hyundai Motor said it would launch the redesigned G90 flagship sedan under its upmarket Genesis brand in its domestic market early next year.

The South Korean automaker said it had already begun to take pre-orders for the new model to offset the sharp downturn in domestic sales in recent months.

The fully-revamped G90 replaces a model that was last updated in 2018 and comes with a 3.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The standard model is priced at KRW90m (US$76,000), while the long wheelbase model is 19cm longer and costs KRW166m (US$140,000).

The new G90 has a short front overhang and a long clamshell hood that spans the entire width of the car. The rear features separate rows of light emitting diode (LED) bars stretching across the entire width of the bumper and tailgate.

Later in 2022 the model will be launched in export markets where the automaker aims to increase its share of luxury car sales.
